19 candidates vying for the 11 Students Union Executive positions appeared before an Electoral Committee set up for the upcoming 2017 Students Union elections for their first screening.
The 10-man committee constituted students of the various Colleges of the University as well as two alumnus of the University. The 5-hour screening exercise which started at exactly 3:30pm, was held at a section of the Oba Oladele Olashore Auditorium on Sunday, 4th June.
According to the Chairperson of the Committee, God's Gift Adepoju, the screening exercise was to ascertain their mission, vision, comportment, charisma, morals among others.
Another member of the committee, Mr. Araromi Revelation, added that the screening exercise was supposed to put them on their toes as they would be likely to face tougher situations on the day of the manifesto. He also expressed satisfaction over the turnout of candidates.
Candidates who scored above 50 percent in the screening were given the go-ahead to commence their campaign, while those who scored below 50 were asked to wait till Tuesday when they would be communicated by the Committee.
The members of the committee warned against defacing the university, urging them to shun violence, defamation and slander during electoral campaigns.
The proposed date for the manifesto and the elections are Wednesday, 7th June, and Saturday, 10th June, respectively. They, however, noted that the final screening would be with staff members of the Students' Affairs Unit.
