#EndSARS: Scores injured as thugs attack protesters in Ekiti

There was pandemonium in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital on Tuesday as the protests against police brutality took a fresh dimension when arm-wielding hoodlums suspected to be commercial drivers attacked the protesters.

The hoodlums bearing cutlasses, sticks and gun attacked the protesters around 12: 45pm at Adebayo area of the state capital where they mounted blockades.

It was gathered that the hoodlums went on rampage to vent their anger against the continued disruption of economic and social activities in the state capital city by the protesters.

The atmosphere was tensed as some of the protesters repelled the hoodlums while others who could not withstand the arm-wielding hoodlums scampered for safety.

The situation grounded to halt economic activities and vehicular movement in the area as motorists, commuters and shop owners had fled the scene to escape being trapped.

Several people including the bystanders sustained varying degrees of injuries in the process.

When contacted, Spokesman for the Ekiti Police Command, Sunday Abutu said he had not being briefed about the incident.

However, the Ekiti State government has ordered the immediate closure of both public and private public schools in the state for the rest of the week.

The government made this disclosure in a statement by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Olabimpe Aderiye and made available to newsmen on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the order was a proactive step to safeguard the lives of the pupils, teachers and other staff members who are finding it difficult to get to their respective schools due to the protests.

It added that schools will resume next week, Monday, October 26, 2020 for their academic activities.
