A ghastly accident happened along St. Mulumba Wetheral by Akachi Road in Owerri, Imo state capital in the early hours of today around 6am.
An eye witness account narrated that a truck fully loaded with gravel was stationed very close to the bridge. According to him, the driver of the truck and his team went to take their bath in the stream that early morning.
A bigger truck fully loaded with big timbers was negotiating through the same road, and appeared not to have seen the stationed truck on time.
So in a sudden attempt to maneuver his way over the stationed truck, he hit the truck over the culvert that demarcated the road. The engine side of the truck was destroyed into pieces.
Though no live was lost, but there were some serious casualties who were immediately rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri for immediate medical attention.
Meanwhile, on seeing what had happened, the driver of the stationed truck with gravel ran away with his truck, leaving the damaged vehicle and the injured men in the pool of their own blood.
Save for the timely intervention of some good Samaritans, they would have died on the spot because they were bleeding profusely.
