APC chieftain, Orji Uzor Kalu, urges people of the southeast to support President Buhari and his re-election bid in 2019
The former governor says Ndigbo will enjoy being in the ruling party
Group targets 5 million supporters for Buhari
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed optimism that someone of Igbo descent would be president in 2023 after President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term. Kalu also stated that it is possible for him to be in Aso Rock if he is alive and in good health as he understands Nigeria’s macro and micro economics. The former governor of Abia state made the statement when speaking at the burial of former vice president, Alex Ekwueme. Kalu who urged the Igbo to support Buhari and his re-election to achieve the dream, said an Igbo president will emerge in 2023, and not 2019 when many Igbo would have loved it to happen, Vanguard reports. Once Buhari finishes his second tenure, I am assuring you that either I or any other Igbo man stands a better chance of becoming the President of Nigeria. The right thing to do is to work for the presidency." The former governor said the future is very bright for the Ndigbo, adding that the group will enjoy being in APC. If you see what I have done in our villages as governor, you will know what will happen if somebody like me becomes the President; you know that the entire Nigeria will be developed. The future is very bright and Ndigbo will enjoy being in APC. It is possible to have Orji Kalu in Aso Rock, if I’m alive and in good health. I’m very capable to be President because I understand Nigeria’s macro and micro economics,” Kalu stated. Meanwhile, a group, Buhari Victory Mobilisers, has said that it is targeting five million supporters for President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2019 elections. The Punch reports that this was explained by Chief Law Madu who is the leader of the group. He said their focus was to promote good governance and ensure the re-election of Buhari should he decide to seek a second term in office. Madu said they have realised that President Buhari has done well to seek re-election and described him as a man of honour. The group in a veiled response to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said no amount of letter can stop President Buhari in 2019.
